  • Yearlings and Breeze Ups

    Gordon-Watson Bloodstock has built up a reputation as one of the most successful agencies in the world when it comes to purchasing yearlings. With over 35 years of experience, Charlie’s CV speaks for itself and he is regularly one of the leading buyers at the European yearling auctions. He has purchased the winners of 50 Group 1 races including 10 Classic winners as yearlings and over 350 horses that have been victorious at Listed/ Group level. Charlie, aided by Will, attends all the major European Sales, as well as travelling further a-field to North America and South Africa. Both Charlie and Will pride themselves in seeking value at the yearling sales whatever the budget and make sure that their preparation and research into each horse is as thorough as possible. Their success has led to some of Europe’s leading trainers using their services at sales including Sir Michael Stoute, John Gosden and Andre Fabre. 


    Horses In Training and Private Sales

    Charlie and Will purchase close to 100 horses in training a year to race in countries such as Hong Kong, Australia, Qatar, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, America and Singapore to name a few. They have enjoyed considerable success in the horses in training area of the market and coupled with their extensive range of contacts and large number of horses under management they are uniquely placed to help you. They also complete a large number of private bloodstock transactions on behalf of clients each year. 


    Breeding Stock

    Over the years Gordon-Watson Bloodstock has enjoyed enormous success with mare purchases both privately and at the sales. These include Darara the dam of multiple Group 1 winners Dar Re Mi and Rewilding and Shouk the dam of Classic winner Alexandrova and champion two year old Magical Romance. 


    They advise many of the leading European breeders such as Watership Down Stud, Daylesford Stud and Al Wasmiyah Stud on broodmare acquisitions and mating plans.     Nominations

    Charlie and Will advise clients on the booking of over 100 nominations each breeding season. They are uniquely placed to advise you on any stallion you might be considering for your mare. Due to their extensive contacts, they are often also able to secure you a better fee and often better terms for your mare. 


    Administration, Insurance & Bloodstock Management

    Charlie and Will manage horses for a range of clients. They have strong relationships with a number of leading trainers in England, Europe, Hong Kong and America and both are well placed to advise clients, having a strong knowledge of form and the programme book. 


    They are acutely aware of the vast amount of paperwork and admin surrounding the ownership of a racehorse and believe it is of the utmost importance that clients should be able to experience the joys of racing without the aggravation. In terms of administration we can look after all of your paperwork allowing you to just enjoy the fun bits. We can help set up a racing bank account and navigate the complicated VAT and tax laws on European racing, as well as filing invoices for VAT returns and approving invoices. We also work closely with a number of insurers and can advise and take care of all of your bloodstock insurance needs.


    Charlie and Will are also happy to assess and value your bloodstock portfolio, however large or small. Valuations are often undertaken for probate, divorce and tax reasons as well as clients who have their portfolios valued annually. 


    Partnerships

    Owning a racehorse is not just for the elite few, Gordon-Watson Bloodstock runs and manages syndicates on behalf of clients. If you are just looking to have fun with friends and enjoy a share in a horse then that is something we can help with, it does not have to cost a fortune.
