The final yearling sale of the year saw Charlie Gordon-Watson Bloodstock topping the Tattersalls December yearling sale. The purchase was a good looking, free moving son of Frankel who sold 250,000 Guineas. The Highclere consigned colt was bought for Mohammed Jaber and will be trained by Ed Dunlop.

Charlie commented after the sale, “He is a very nice horse, out of a very nice mare, with an Arc winner [Suave Dancer features under the third

dam Suavite] on the page and is out of an Anabaa mare, which Iparticularly like. My client wanted to buy two horses, but I told him to target this one.’

While flat racing is slowing down in Europe it is just getting going in Qatar. Gordon-Watson Bloodstock horses in training purchases have been excelling in Qatar with both Opera Baron and Itorio winning Group 3’s.

Another stand out horse in training purchase for owner Sheail Bin Khalifa and trainer Jassim Al Ghazali is Third Dimension, who is now the top rated dirt horse in Qatar.

Charlie Gordon-Watson Bloodstock is a world-renown bloodstock agency which has built up a reputation as a consistent source of top-quality bloodstock. To date, Charlie has bought 10 Classic winners and the winners of over 50 Group 1 races.

Among numerous career highlights for Charlie must be Kris Kin’s victory in British racing’s ‘blue-riband’ the Epsom Derby. Another flagship triumph for him was King’s Best’s win in the 2000 Guineas in 2000 while he has twice bought the winner of the world’s oldest Classic, the St Leger, with Snurge in 1990 and Kingston Hill in 2014.

Another shrewd purchase by Charlie was the remarkable Red Cadeaux, winner of the Group 1 Hong Kong Vase and runner-up in no less than three Melbourne Cups. Bought as a yearling for 55,000gns, he has earned almost £5,000,000 in prizemoney, making him the highest UK trained earning horse in Europe.

In addition to an impressive yearling purchase record, Charlie also has an exceptional mare purchase record, having bought the dams of world-class horses such as Dar Re Mi, Rewilding, Seville, Alexandrova, Magical Romance and War Command. He has also made many shrewd horses-in training buys, which include the winner of the Group 1 Hong Kong Derby (Brave Music) and Group 1 Golden Jubilee Stakes (Cape of Good Hope).

Charlie formed Charles Gordon-Watson Bloodstock in 1985. Prior to that he had stints working for leading owner Robert Sangster, as well as gaining experience working for a thoroughbred PR company and the thoroughbred publication Pacemaker. Having grown up on a stud farm, horses were always a passion for Charlie and he had the first of many race rides at the age of 14.
